Какие краски! Какое разнообразие! Какое богатство вымысла и сюжетов! У этого человека есть все, кроме правды. Нет ни одной из частей в его композициях, которая, будучи отдельно взятой, не очаровывала бы вас. Какое нелепое и крикливое нагромождение всякой всячины! Чувствуешь всю его бессмысленность и все же не можешь оторвать глаз от картины. Она влечет, к ней поневоле возвращаешься! Дени Дидро
